
Sarah is a board certified licensed
acupuncturist (L.Ac) in Maine and is certified as a Diplomate of Acupuncture by
the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
(NCCAOM). She also holds
Maine certification for custom Chinese herbal formulation.
Sarah graduated from Lesley University in
Cambridge with a BS in Mind-Body Studies and completed a study abroad program
in Tibetan Buddhism in Kathmandu, Nepal with Naropa University where she became
interested in Eastern Medicine.
She spent two years studying under Dr. Vasant Lad at The Ayurvedic
Insititute in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In 2007 Sarah completed her Master of Science in Oriental Medicine
(MSOM) at the nationally accredited Southwest Acupuncture College in
Albuquerque.
While completing her Masters degree at
Southwest Acupuncture College, Sarah chose to undertake a clinical mentorship
with Dr. Jeffrey Meyer in Inochi medicine, a unique form of Japanese
acupuncture. Sarah spent over 800
clinical hours with Dr. Meyer studying this style of treatment.
As part of her clinical mentorship, Sarah
worked extensively with families effected by abuse and trauma through an
Albuquerque battered women's shelter and with foster children and parents
through the treatment foster care organization La Familia. Sarah has also worked with many
children dealing with ADHD, autism and learning disabilities through
Albuquerque's Community Lighthouse.
Through this clinical experience she discovered her love of working with
children and families. During her
mentorship she completed over 1200 hours of clinical rotation, providing
treatment to hundreds of individuals of all ages.
From January of 2006 to May of 2008, Sarah
was the program coordinator for the international non-profit organization
Acupuncturists Without Borders.
Sarah co-coordinated AWB's New Orleans Recovery Program, which provided
8,000 free treatments to the people of post-Katrina New Orleans. She spent time on the ground in New
Orleans in 2006. Sarah also
provided coordination for AWB's California Wildfire Relief Effort of 2007 and
worked on a nationwide project to bring free acupuncture to veterans returning
from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Prior to her involvement in the acupuncture
community, Sarah worked as an herbalist for two of the nations leading
Ayurvedic physicians, Dr Vasant Lad and Dr. Sunil Joshi. She also taught yoga and had a practice
in Ayurvedic medicine in both New Mexico and Hawai'i.
Sarah has been in private practice on Mt.
Desert Island since 2009.
Sarah is a Maine native who grew up outside
of Portland. She is an
enthusiastic hiker and paddler and a slow food devotee. She currently resides in Seal Cove with
her husband and two small children where they live amidst the constant
renovation of their 125 year old farmhouse.
